After School Acting Classes

Spring Classes meet ONCE a week beginning the week of January 22 and run through May 2008
All Classes Cost : $350/ session

Acting Classes for Ages 5- 8 years

The Playground: (5-8 yrs.) This new spin on our introductory drama class is a fun and exciting way for young children to discover the joys of theater. Designed for actors at the beginner level, the class will focus on all the fundamentals of acting and creative play through a series of interactive drama games and exercises. Students will work on movement, listening skills, speech skills, character development, storytelling, and more, as they create, design and rehearse their own original play to be performed at the end of the session.

Class time: Tuesdays: 4:00-5:30PM

Adventures in Acting: (5-8 yrs) This advanced acting class is designed for young actors who have already mastered skills presented in The Playground level. The class will inspire students to create characters, develop scenes, and collaborate on their own original play based on a favorite piece of children’s literature. We will focus on all the fundamentals of character acting, blocking, character voice, and movement through a new series of dramatic challenges and exercises. Students will work to improve listening skills, character development, storytelling, and more, as they create, design and perform their own original play to be performed at the end of the session.

Class time: Wednesdays: 4:00-5:30PM

Acting Classes for Ages 9-12 years

The Acting Lab: (9-12 yrs) Check out our new take on the Actor’s Process where students are challenged to combine as many theatrical elements as possible into one amazing show. The class will focus on creating an original play connecting Music, Movement, Scene Work, Poetry, Stage Combat, and other individual talents, with an original storyline. Actors will focus on ensemble building, scene & monologue work, advanced acting techniques, storytelling, voice techniques, musical theater, basic stage combat, and more. The session concludes with a live performance for a public audience.

Class time: Thursdays 4:00-5:30PM

The Big Picture: (9-12 yrs) Check out our Young Film Makers workshop, where students focus on Acting for the Camera. Students will explore many types of film projects from Commercials to Silent Films to Short Features while learning the basic terms and techniques for storyboarding and screen writing. Students will also learn about basic camera shots, directing, lighting, sound, computer editing and all other behind-the-scenes aspects of creating an original motion picture. The session will conclude with a Red Carpet Film Premiere event for the public.

Class time: Tuesdays 6:00-7:30PM

Acting Classes for Ages 11-14

Young Performers Ensemble: (11-14) This Advanced Acting workshop will focus on professional acting techniques designed to prepare young actors for a performance in a well known play. Students will choose from three well known play scripts, and explore the professional acting process through audition techniques, casting, scene study, blocking, character work, and rehearsal process necessary to achieve a well-polished performance. The class will conclude with a Weekend Run for a public audience. Pre-requisite: Previous stage experience.

Class times: Thursdays: 6:00-8:00PM

Teen Improv Comedy for Ages 15-18

NEW! Underground Improv (15-18 yrs) Throw away your script and get ready to Improvise like the pros. This new teen workshop focuses on the art of Improv Comedy: creating scenes from scratch based on audience suggestions. Students will learn all the basic rules and skills of Improv Comedy, while mastering over fifteen exciting games. The class will focus on Truth in Comedy, team building, quick thinking, creative characterization, setting the scene, defining relationships, and other essential Improv tools. If you love the show “Who’s Line Is It Anyway” come find out how fun, easy, and unpredictable this theater sport can be. Class concludes with a public Improv performance.

Class time: Wednesday nights 7-8:30pm
